The Road Ahead

The Background:
I normally go out of my way to avoid including anything man-made in my nature photos. I want to capture nature in a pristine way, and I feel that anything else in the scene takes away from the beauty of G-d’s world. However, in this case, we had been shooting in the depths of the Hoh Rainforest in Olympic National Park and the scene in the forest was a bit overwhelming. I came out for a break and loved the vision of this empty road surrounded by the forest and curving off into the unknown…
The Message:
There is something so powerful about the start of a journey. The open road or the beginning of a trail hold so much possibility. The excitement of what is to come, the unknown of where the journey will lead and the potential that exists in that moment of a new beginning. I think this is part of the allure of a road trip or a backpacking trip (or for some, the start of a good book). We definitely need to appreciate the everyday adventure of life, but every once in a while, we also need that infusion of excitement that comes from starting a new journey. Taking that first step towards something new, connecting and experiencing a place and a time in a deep way is such a meaningful endeavor. The energy that we feel through that experience can be harnessed to help us bring the same excitement to whatever road we are on.
