The Background:
I captured this scene many years ago in the “Island in the Sky” section of Canyonlands National Park in Utah. I was standing on the Mesa and looking across the canyon that was filled with clouds. The red rock spire protruding from the midst of the clouds really brought to life how this section of the park got its name.
The Message:
Sometimes we can feel like we are sinking beneath the pressures - of work, of family or of other responsibilities and demands. When I look at this picture, I see a hand being raised – someone feeling overwhelmed but speaking up and asking for help. Recognizing that it is OK to ask for help is such an important realization. We sometimes feel like it is a sign of weakness to need some help or that there isn’t anyone around that can help us. But if we just raise our hand, we will discover that we don’t have to do this all on our own. In most cases, we will find someone that can lift us up or just support us where we are. At other times, we may find that the only person that can help is G-d – but He is always ready to listen and just asking can strengthen our relationship and our faith.
