The Background:
I took this shot many years ago on a trip to the Eastern Sierras in California. Overall, I recall that the trip was a bit of a disappointment. I was not prepared for the high elevation and after the first hike I had a headache and was feeling fatigued. Looking back, I think I ended up doing many more hours of driving than hiking and didn’t come back with many pictures I was really excited about.
The Message:
Since my last photography trip, I have been feeling a bit uninspired. I have been very blessed to experience many “Wow!” moments on my trips and have been very lucky to capture some of these experiences in my photos. Lately, however, I have been struggling to find that same excitement. The Summer is a tough time to find solitude in nature and the heat and the crowds at some of the most spectacular spots had me feeling unmotivated to get out. I have to remind myself that there are still special spots and unique moments out there – but even if those are hard to find, the pursuit of “Wow” Itself is something to be treasured and appreciated. I am hoping to get out to the Northern Sierras (North of Lake Tahoe) towards the end of August or early September. The crowds should be smaller and the temperature more reasonable – and it is an area I have not explored much. But even if the photos don’t pan out – the pursuit of “Wow” is still exciting and inspiring.
