The Background:
I captured this image at Rialto Beach in Olympic National Park in Washington State. I took several versions of this scene as the waves came in and out. I loved this particular shot because it caught the golden sea spray coming up from the waves as well as the small piece of seaweed in the foreground that seemed to capture the fading sunlight.
The Message:
Walking along this beach towards sunset there was so much that caught my eye. The dramatic rock formations in the background are certainly the focus of the scene. But for me, the light reflecting off the surf and the glow emanating from the piece of seaweed are what really create the scene for me. I think we all have that small light inside of us – our soul – which reflects our connection to G-d. It may not always dominate the scene, but the spark remains. It is our job to nurture that light, feed the goodness in ourselves and try and grow and improve. If we do this right, the light that we cultivate will spread beyond ourselves and we can light up the lives of everyone around us as well.
