The Background:
I went on a road trip with my youngest son over Thanksgiving week to White Sands National Park in New Mexico. The morning we arrived, we had two goals – to find an area with pristine photogenic patterns and to find a great hill for sledding. This dune fit both bills – so I took some pictures first, then we tried our hand at sledding down the smooth gypsum sand. I love the simplicity of this photo – with the dramatic patterns of the sparkling white sand contrasted with the deep blue sky.
The Message:
In life, we build our paths and patterns through our actions. Hopefully, we can align them upwards towards heaven and towards positive growth. However, we often find that our paths waver or get completely off track. What I found to be inspirational about these sand dunes is that each day so many people climb over them or sled down them, disrupting the beautiful patterns – but each night, the wind restores the perfect patterns and pathways to their pristine condition. The same is true for us, regardless of how things went yesterday, how far we may have veered or fallen, we are given a new day to re-align ourselves and build new pathways. As long as we keep trying to move higher, despite our imperfections and failures, we are building something beautiful.
