The Background:
I took this shot in the Kolob Canyons section of Zion National Park. I enjoy this area of the park because it is less crowded than the main Zion Canyon but still has dramatic scenery. This image was captured during a brief gap in the middle of a snow flurry. I loved how the blue sky and sunlight made a brief appearance and added drama to the scene.
The Message:
Looking at this image, you might have no idea that it had just been snowing moments before. Sometimes we meet people that are the same – despite tremendous difficulty, challenges or pain – they maintain a positive attitude and always seem to keep a smile on their face. How do they manage to do this? I honestly have no idea…but I believe that there are two elements that must be present. First, there is a conscious decision to stay positive. This may be a one-time decision, or it may be a daily or even hourly choice – but it is a choice that definitely has to be made. Second, they seek to actively find the positive in life. This takes work and focus – but there is always something positive we can find if we are looking for it. Even when there is nothing in our situation that appears positive, we can be the positive force in bringing something good into the lives of others. By relentlessly focusing on finding and/or creating the positive, we can begin to see the light in every situation.
